Anyone else agree with the title?
You mean as a consumer or a worker?
I can safely say it sucks for both. I try to buy gifts for people before the holiday season start save me the trouble.
I used to work retail, years ago. Bleh it was terrible. Well I hated it any time of year, but especially holiday time.
As a manager more specifically.
I'm fortunate enough to work the best retail job ever so I'm really not any more stressed than usual. The holiday bonuses don't hurt, either. But at my last job... man. Christmastime was brutal...
Christmas is always brutal in the stores for both consumers and retailers
I think its only slightly brutal on the customers but its hell on the employees because especially as things run out of stock the customer still expects the employee to have an answer on when its going to arrive.
Having worked the trenches I know it gets ugly and now working in a supermarket I experience the hell that is the last minute shopper. These are the idiots who come in on the eve of the holiday and then <REDACTED> out the employees because things like turkeys and hams and roasts are rather slim on selection.
This year on the last hour before closing thanksgiving eve we had someone <REDACTED> out the manager because we would not give them a free turkey due to our lacking non-frozen birds in the weight they needed....
