Having lots of things to do is always good in a MMO and it looks like Wildstar is putting a focus on that. With housing we've seen gardening as well as structures like the Windmill and the cannon which may add some more gameplay.

Are there any minigames or hobbies from other games that really stood out to you? And would you like to see any of them or something similar in Wildstar?

The ones that stood out for me was LOTRO's Music, WoW's Fishing, and pretty much anything that had a card game of some sort. I don't know if any of them would fit in Wildstar but I really enjoyed them. I would like to see Brewing if it's not already a part of crafting especially since it's in the Granok's history. Animal Husbandry to go along with housing may be an interesting option as well.

No fishing. Although I see Granok fish with dynamite. :geek: Basically you can turn anything into a minigame
I think. But they shouldn't turn any profession or skill into a mini-game at all. Like the name say, make them a game and make them a choice to spend time. For example waiting for the beginning of the raid.

Some games that come to mind at this moment:
    • I would be really fun and awesome if they made some parody of the D&D games as a mini-game. You could play that in your house. Instead of a raid you could plan a D&D game :roflamo:.
    • I believe in SWG they had Pazaak as a card game in the cantinas. Something similar would be great as well.
    • Maybe an arcade hall in the main city, where you can play 'classics' as Galactica and Pacman, only with a Nexus twist. You have to pay 1 gold to get 3 lives.
    • A personal console where you can program your macro's and write your guides. You then share them through Nexusnet. This way you can share the macro's in-game instead of having to rely on 3rd party websites and such!
I could think more about some games, but it's basically limitless. You can go everywhere with this. Most games really lack in the mini-game appartment. It's not a gamebreaker if they are not in the game from release anyway. I'm too busy playing and leveling. But after a few months it would be nice to see a mini-game appear in the game.

Oh I agree, I didn't mean that they should make hobbies/secondary skills into minigames. I just group them together because they are both non-essential to a MMO.

I love mini games for waiting times. Be it waiting for raid to gather, the 5-10 minutes to get from point a to b with a flight path or just hanging out.

Crafting - Vanguards is fun, EQ2s less so, WoWs not at all.
Complex crafting feels like a mini-game with an essential part in the game.

Video is a fan tutorial for getting started on Vanguard crafting and shows how mat storage is solved as a part of crafting gear (+++), second best solution, best would be a account shared storage that is accessed from any workstation a character on the same faction and server connects with.

Diplomacy - while a part of the Vanguard experience and potential to effect the game, I consider it a card mini game.

Fishing - yes, I do like a good fishing game.

Vanguard and WoW has each a variation of the theme.

Peggle - was an addon on WoW, that made flight paths much more fun for a while. A lot of players of the game published their results to guild chat, so it became a spam problem for others. Addon developement is discontinued.

Battle pets - pokemon - is a terrific mini game connected to the game. Collecting my own wild companions has become a secondary goal to gear progression.

Legend of Norrath is SOEs take on a card game with access from in their games, but its uses for getting loot cards as a free bonus for subs became the primary reason to have it, which is kind of sad, because for the short while I did play it against friends, it was pretty fun. BTW, free to download the client and try it out with the starter packs.

SOE also had a facebook game that worked like NFL only based on race / class combos weekly updates rather than players. Was rather fun too, and also gave some superficial insight to what classes where doing well and were played. They took it down a while ago.

EQ2 has a gambling npc and EQ has/had the casino feature. Pretty much gold zinks with a slim chance to win something that is possibly substantially lesser worth than the value poured into the feature (like most gambling out there, but the chance to win the jackpot works as a compulsion to keep putting another dime into it for some).

Mini-games with a mobile app connection could be so cool for bored people on the move, and even if they are time challenged in periods, with an optional mobile chat connection to guild/friends, they can keep the social contact with new and old members.

Edit: small extra information, videos and links.

Could be fun. The harvest moon like Tiller farm on WoW turned out to be a nice extra, but I do like me some animals that are more than decorations.
