This is exactly why I never bother trying to find a guild via a forum. The only guilds that you're likely to actually find a thread about are usually the types of guilds that I have no interest in joining.
I much prefer finding people that I enjoy playing with in game and going from there.
Takes longer, but works much much better.

I'd have to disagree with you there.

I think you can tell a lot about a guild from its efforts before the game has launched. In almost every MMO that I've played from launch, I've joined guilds prior to the launch of said MMO and played other games with them like LoL/CoD etc.

It helps you get to know the people better when launch comes around.

You're also likely to find far more dedicated players, if they've taken the time to actually seek a guild pre-launch.

I'm obviously slightly biased here, but its with a pretty good reason. :)

I think this is a great idea.

I like what the SWTOR community did with the Ideal Guild Quiz. Would be good if there was something like that here. Make it mandatory for guilds to register on it before they even post?

(Featuring a database of 85 Guilds)

There were over 1000 guilds. Somewhat biased...

That said I could build something like this for WS after work tonight if there is interest.

    These things dont work.

Guilds are asked to describe themselves and end up ticking all the boxes for fear of losing potential applicants. You then just end up with a list of guilds who might cover what you do, and may not.

Then guilds fall apart and new ones pop up and the whole thing is obsolete in 3 months. Nice idea but a total waste of your time. Forums are the best way to go.

Anything that isn't done by Carbine and isn't built into the the game will never be a true reflection of the demographic. Something like what Neverwinter Online has would be ideal.

This happens on forums as well. Zergs will be zergs.

I was thinking about it and if the questions are mutually exclusive then you cant just tick off the boxes. Things like "Do you prefer a small/medium/large guild?"

99% of the guilds recruiting on the forums will be gone 3 months after launch. I dont see how a matching tool is any less effective.

Utter tosh. And as a Scotsman, I'd put money on it.

Okay folks, we've spun up a couple of new sub forums - to start with we're going to try a Dominion/Exile split and see if that helps alleviate the problem. I've additionally removed the Recruitment threads from "What's New", since it was a valid comment/complaint.

Let's see how that sits and we can break things down differently if this isn't enough.

    Interesting opinion you have there.

If any other MMO launch is something to judge by, and I don't see why this one will be different, (other than the fact that this is a FAR better game than SWTOR, WAR, Age of Conan and 'insert pretty much every MMO released post-WoW here') then I'd say you're wrong by a rather large margin.

A problem I haven't yet had the time to suffer from. Seems like a good plan anyway though! Good stuff

I've took the additional step of breaking out the sub forums to the top level - no real need for them to stay as child nodes. I've also closed the old Recruitment forum to prevent new threads being started there.

You will need to wait on your recruitment post to be moved - or use the Report function if you want the mods to prioritise your move. URL's to threads will remain unchanged throughout.

    Sorry for any inconvenience!

This was one of the best changes you've made on these forums so far. More stringent bumping rules is always a plus, but even if those don't happen just yet. Making it easier for seekers to find the right guild is great as well. +1

Would love to see server-based forums myself.

Without sound like a real penis...

I think NA/EU boards might be more effective, than Exiles/Dominion.

Once you're in the forum - click an NA or EU tag - and voila! You're only viewing guilds tagged as such!
