Carbine Studios unveiled their long awaited and very secretive MMO - WildStar at this years gamesom. The game received high praises from both players and media, especially about its very unique art style, which in my opinion looked like a living and breathing comic book. It simply looked amazing! Since gamescom ended their have been various reviews, interviews and videos released about WildStar. We have gathered all the news about WildStar from gamescom and have provided it below for your convenience. WildStar Online Looks Simply Gorgeous (MMORPG) I wasn't sure what to think when I woke up to publish our GW2 PvP Feature, and caught the unveiling of Carbine's WildStar Online. Really, my gut reaction was "Oh man, this is like Firefly meets Titan A.E." The game is simply beautiful in its rendering of the world and characters, and the trailer is the kind of cinematic genius that's usually reserved for Pixar films... a really violent Pixar film where a giant monster gets a hole blown in its head. After playing it yesterday, and watching an hour-long explanation of why Carbine believes it’s a new way forward for MMOs, I doubt my surprise will be unique. Announced at gamescom this morning, NCsoft’s Wildstar is a living cartoon, a mélange of science fiction and fantasy built by a core group of developers that drifted away from Blizzard after World of Warcraft shipped. Continue reading... NCSoft Vs The World: Wildstar Preview (Rock, Paper, Shotgun) “Cool story, Gaffney.” So Wildstar lead Jeremy Gaffney, co-creator of Turbine and now heading up NCSoft’s MMO dev supergroup Carbine Studios, repeatedly mock-chastises himself when unveiling their first game to the media. He’s making promises we’ve heard so many times, about so many massively multiplayer games that ultimately didn’t live up to their wild hype: this is “the deepest, richest MMO ever,” it “lets players play how they want to play”, “this is something new.” You know how that song goes. Cool story, Gaffney. This guy though, right here and now, aims to back up his grandiose claims, right here and now. Carbine are finally ready to show off fantasy/sci-fi hybrid MMO Wildstar. It goes a little something like this. Continue reading... WildStar Hands-On Preview - Far From Your Typical Fantasy MMO Starring Magical Woman Bunny (G4TV) In 2007, NCsoft assembled Carbine Studios, luring key figures from the likes of World of Warcraft, Fallout, and City of Heroes to create what the publisher at the time called a "dream dev team." Four years later and the dream is now starting to become a reality; not that it was ever in doubt in the mind of the studio's passionate executive producer Jeremy Gaffney. Continue reading... WildStar preview: hands on with the stylish new MMO (PC Gamer) WildStar is a newly announced sci-fi / fantasy MMO from Carbine, a studio of NCSoft comprised of veterans from the World of Warcraft, City of Heroes and Guild Wars teams, amongst many more. They’re building an MMO to cater to four distinct types of gamer: fighters, explorers, collectors and socialisers. So when you start WildStar, you not only choose a race and class, but also a path. Continue reading... WildStar - Preview (EU Gamer) Once, we dreamed of worlds where we could be anyone, do anything. That day may yet come, but in 2011 the grand fantasy of a sandbox MMO is one that is served only by boutique or elder games which determinedly reward the eternal ardour of their existing fans but struggle to add that surface level of gloss and accessibility necessary to draw a gigantic crowd. Continue reading... I’m Falling in Love With WildStar, and I Don’t Care Who Knows It It's not the stunning CGI movie quality trailer for NCsoft and Carbine's WildStar that has my heart beating so hard. Nor is it these forty-four screenshots, covering the races, combat, and environments of this gorgeous space born adventure. It's not even the bunny girls (though they certainly help). So what is it? It's the concept hiding behind all of this striking art and noise that piques my interest the most. At first glimpse it might look like Carbine is attempting to fill the gap left by Blizzard's lack of a World of StarCraft game, creating a cartoon-colored science fiction MMO. WildStar is much more than that. Continue reading... Gamescom 2011: Five upcoming games that stand out (CNN) Cologne, Germany (CNN) -- Gamescom is probably the biggest video game show you've never heard of. Over a quarter of a million people have flocked to Germany this week to get exclusive hands-on gameplay with some of the biggest games of this year (Activision's "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" and Sony's "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception") and next (Sega's "Aliens: Colonial Marines" and Electronic Arts' "Mass Effect 3"). Continue reading... WildStar Preview (Strategy Informer) Maybe there's blood in the water. Maybe MMO companies around the world are sensing that maybe, just maybe, now is the time to try and take on that elephant in the room. Either way, there's a few MMO's appearing now that claim to be doing, or at least wanting to do, the next big thing. Some actually, some do but somehow it doesn't seem enough, and others are pretenders. We don't know where Wildstar fits yet, but given that they rub shoulders with ArenaNet, they're off to a good start. Continue reading... Wildstar Hands-On: A Class Act (GameSpy) Making its debut at this year's GamesCom, Wildstar is NCSoft's next foray into the increasingly competitive MMORPG arena. A cartoony mash-up of fantasy, science-fiction and a hint of spaghetti Western for good measure, Wildstar is Carbine's flagship product for the future, and the team behind it has a wealth of world-building experience. "You name it, and someone in the building has probably had had a hand in it," Executive Producer Jeremy Gaffney informed our small group of journalists during a presentation at GamesCom. Have they used this experience to build something new, or is it just another rehash of the successful WoW recipe? Continue reading... WildStar: Gamescom Reveal Interview with Chad Moore (MMORPG) MMORPG.com: What is the most exciting thing about WildStar? Chad Moore: It's depth. By depth I mean real depth. We've played all other MMORPG's and we know we need true depth and enough content for players. This is something WildStar has and we're very excited to see players experience it. Continue reading...
