I'm currently raiding in wow as a warlock and I really like the class and the evil aspect of it. But I also like archers in other MMORPGs. So i'm stuck between a spellslinger and an esper. I have tried a Spellslinger before. My friend is going to play a Warrior.

You know the best way to approuch this question is the following:

    1. Try all classes!
    2. Pick your favorite!

It's just as simple as that :D

I suffer from being an altaholic. I will likely play everything.
You have time to play around a bit to see what you like, try something new.

Hmmm, the Warlock is a summoner, The only similar class is an Engineer with pet robots, Or an Esper with temp pets...
My advice is to go Engineer. Armor, really big gun, and pets to draw the agro. The only thing you will miss is the succubus.

The problem is that he never said what kind of lock he was.....

Some things that come close: (but never forget that each class isn't anywhere near the same as a class in WoW)
Affliction lock = Esper (seems they can kinda lay their focus a bit more on DoT's)
Demon lock = engineer (just for the pets if you want to focus on that)
Destro = SS/Esper (seems to me you prefer a hard hitting character)

It all depends on what kind of lock he was, so again I will say ''try them all out!''.
He liked the evil aspect of them?
Go make an Dominion character or a Mordesh if you are wanting to feel more evil, in WS you get that vibe from the races instead of the classes.

I think that's good advice for other reasons too.

There's only two classes I'm seriously considering but I'll play them all at least into the teens. What I've found in other MMOs which I think will be even more true for WS is that playing other classes enough to understand them makes it a bit easier for me to predict what others playing those classes will do. That applies both to team-mates and opponents in PvP.

warning: spellslingers start off extremely dull.
warning: the melee classes r great early on, they might be too entertaining for you to ignore them
