I don't blame you for not wanting to be in the same faction as the Aurin.
All race decisions that Carbine made were tied directly into the two faction plan. The notion of having two distinct and different factions that would polarize players was paramount during the development of the game and the races were designed to further that goal. You will note as well that the stories for each of the races have been integrally tied into this conflict and wouldn't really make much sense if they could be on w/e faction the player chose. Sure MMOs are about player choices, but for a themepark style game like this having a strong guiding narrative is important and the racial stories and allegiances help reinforce that.
That being said there is nothing stopping you from switching factions if you find a race you'd rather be playing.
We're on about the extact same thing. Call it whatever you want, but it was the same thing. City/Faction/Alliance. Say what you will, but before you do, google it and witness a ton of links referring to the Qeynos/Freeport Faction.
I don't need to google anything about EQ because I started in 1998 in beta and played up until about 6 months ago. The factions in EQ are nothing like in other MMO's where you have a good faction and an evil faction. Alliance vs Horde, Exile vs Dominion, etc.
meh i dont think you could roleplay an aurin that wanted to be dominion. too much difference to be playable.
Exile VS Dominion isn't a clear cut Good/Bad, fyi Dominion is good!
Who you calling germ infested rodent!?!?! Mordesh are germ infested not us clean lovely innocent Chuas. Just sit right here AusterlitZ, a nice comfy chair...dont mind the wires...
Why does the chair smell like burnt rowsdowers and fear?
SEE??? Exiles are BAD! They put words into peoples mouths!
You know why that is?
Because we can betray the faction and swap sides, meaning we can also play as whatever race we want.
Man, did we just go full circle here?
I think it all boils down to two fundamental human behaviours: one, humans like being part of a like-minded group, and two, there is no faster way to create a fierce loyalty to a like-minded group than a mutual enemy.
It's fun to be part of a team and you will fiercely defend your team to the very end. (Just check out the Console Wars and Coke vs Pepsi.) You like identifying with that group, you have fun with the people in that group, and you have a good time when the other group suffers.
Having a pool of races at the beginning that can splinter off to either faction undermines both your identities. "Go kill that Troll, Troll, because he's a TEAM B Troll, therefore an EVIL Troll."
The races give your faction their flavour, their identity. Seeing a similar face (only "evil") kind off kills that thrill. Hell, even the Humans and Cassians are fundamentally different on SO many levels that "homo sapien" is the only thing they have in common.
If the WildStar races were all humans? Yeah, splitting the "Races" between factions would be... offensive and problematic. Now that they are aliens with varying cultures and histories? I'd be surprised if they could go to either faction no problem.
(Except Humans and Cassians, who are obviously special snowflakes.)
I'm only correcting others' errors. It's my duty as an Exile to right the wrongs of the Dominion.
You should focus on the wrongs of the Exiles. That should keep you busy for the rest of your life.
Microscopic compared to the actions of the Dominion.
The inbreeding of the humans alone should keep you busy until the end of time.
LOL we already went at this one. Even if humans do inbreed, at least they don't glorify it like the luminai do. The Dominion is so in love with these pseudo-deity eldan that your leaders are essentially a bunch of incestuous pigs. Be careful what you criticise.
i say we have a love - in and slowly roast us up some chua ribs.
oh wait i mean tauren!
Because you corrected yourself, I shall not put an explosive under your bed tonight.
but i like the explosives, they make me fly!
