No MMO so far. I think it would be excellent addition. Pretty easy to just add in a simple odds betting system.

you bet however many nexusbucks. Your guy wins you win double, your guy loses, you lose it all.

The whole new meta of respawns should be interesting. When you take them, timing respawns, and saving them for healers or whatever OP spec is needed the most should be interesting.

The only question I would have on this would be would this legally be allowed in the States with the current online gambling laws?

Eh, I don't think it's that dangerous. Put a betting limit in place. Make it so people in the arena can't receive tells/whispers. Make it so betting has to take place 2 minutes before the match begins and when it starts cut it off.

    Just requires a little attention.

    EDIT: @Dragnog

Why would betting for fake in game currency violate online laws? (I play on a MUD that uses this system it's based out of the US.)

Yea, and I'm guessing the healer classes can bring a res ability with them in arena fights which would probably bypass someone using up a respawn. Would make the fights very interesting.

Blizzard didn't allow betting because, as they claimed, they didn't one anyone to discover they have a gambling problem or encourage the gambling problems of others.

Maybe there is a lawsuit there, too.

i am assuming people can join to spectate their friends. If it end up being just a queue to spectate a random arena, i dont see it working very well.

i cant see how it cant be exploited.

Because sometimes laws don't make sense and I don't know exactly what was actually passed in regards to this. If there is a way of purchasing in-game currency this may become an even more grey area. I would suspect that this would not be allowed in China, but I am not an expert on this. I would not be surprised if it could not be implemented for legal reasons.

Well it sounds like a precedent has been set with other games. Are you able to purchase in game currency in Rift?

From wikipedia. The state you're in has to have pro-gambling laws. If it doesn't then I think even fake money is considered gambling and is illegal.

I think if you could buy currency then gambling would be out. It'd be an If Then situation.

You could have one, but not both.

Dunno. But even if Carbine doesn't set anything up, it doesn't mean all is lost :)

If there is a spectator mode and as many people can watch matches as possible, I don't see how people couldn't stream the matches on a third-party site and have real money switching hands. Just have your setup out of Vegas and a company to handle the money (like an escrow company in Nevada or something where people can transfer money to from their own accounts) and you have your first instances of esports betting.

Aaaargh guys, I woke up early, was really curious to know what the Wildstar Wednesday article was about, saw the article, and thought: "cool, I'll read this after I go back to sleep and wake up at the time I'm supposed to."

So I went back to sleep and now that I'm up again and I opened the article again, I noticed that all the screenshots changed. :(

Someone please tell me they saved the original screenshots. :p. I love screenshots which show off the interface. ^_^

    EDIT: nvm found them. :p
